To your soul I'm related.
Looking beyond your intention,
and my expectation.
Did I forget to mention,
that I'm offering to tolerate
a broken heart?

In this time and place
You have shown me the grace
You have given me wings
You have shared many things
Your giving nature
Can not be measured
For this I love you
You have led me to
The door of my dreams
It felt like sunbeams
You have shared a sunset
A kind I'll never forget
For this I love you

The day was like most have been.
The slight breeze, soon turned to wind.
Inside I sensed a doubt
of a love and what I was about.
The storm quickly brewed,
and the leaves quickly stirred.
I could smell the moisture,
dampening spirits as I stared.

This is the past...welcome!
I go there to sense the arms of mother.
I've come here because it's fun.
This is where the blues are born.
This is comfort...
There is no change in what has gone.
It is beautiful, isn’t it?
I could stay here forever;
I don’t really want to.
This is where I cry.

As I stood not knowing,
and all that was showing,
was this bright light;
A flame consuming fire.
What I did know
is that I wanted more.
So I doused the flame,
extinguished, I became water.

We met unplanned
through a mutual friend.
We wrote letters to each other;
this was our only romance,
well, a few poems I did send.
It wasn't soon after we met
we entered into THE commitment;
the biggest anyone has ever kept.
Due to our own desires and wants
our first child arrives.

My dad he is missing
and I long for him.
I think he left us;
I know what it felt like,
or was it just a divorce?
Dad all those years you were gone.
I asked you, mother,
what happened, what went wrong?
You said, don't you bother,
or I will dis-own you.
What the _ _ _ _ does that do
to your sons and daughter?

The child sleeps,
the innocent weep.
Why does the child
have to reap
the hurt of a parent gone wild?
Struggling....squirming
to breath; under a pillow its smothering.
Who is doing this to me?
I cry out, trying to scream;
a zephyr removes the carbon dioxide.
My heart beating like the surge of a riptide.

This poem is an introduction to my poetic biography, this is the first poem of ten that, I believe, represent who I am. Please see my page for the full series.
When I was young,
and I did'nt know
right from wrong.
An infant in the shadow
hidden against the wall.
Thumb between my lips.
In the living room,
The lights comforting grip,
From the lamp it resumes
on the table next to me.

I thought long on what to put here....I think it may serve better to defer you to my poetry. The following poems would be more telling then what I might ramble on about. So, if you wanted to take a chronological approach to getting to know me then you might want to follow this list:
1. The Wall (may not be suitable for young people; child abuse.)
2. No Air (may not be suitable for young people; child & spousal abuse.)
3. A Missing
4. A Closure And An Ending
5. Lifes Mystery
6. Untitled
7. The Past, Present & Future
8. When Is The Rainbow Coming
9. For This I love You
10. All There Is
Suffice it to say there is a part of me in all my poems. But these would be my top 10 that best tell the most about who I am.
As far as my picture is concerned, I don't think I'll post it...as really this is not about me, per se. Its about my experience of living in this world. So, I am going to create a Self-Portrait and will post it soon.
Thanks for visiting...Gary Hodges
